Tikal Mayan Pyramid Stairs - Guatemala

About This Resource

Tikal is one of the largest Mayan archaeological sites, featuring several tall temple pyramids with steep stairs. Unlike Chichen Itza, many Tikal pyramids remain open to climbing. Temple IV, at 65 meters, is the tallest and offers spectacular views over the jungle canopy. The stairs are extremely steep (approaching 70 degrees), narrow, and can be slippery. Wooden stairways with handrails have been added to some temples for safety. Climbing these pyramids provides visceral connection to Mayan civilization and breathtaking jungle vistas. Tikal is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Guatemala's most famous archaeological treasure.
