About This Resource
Tiger and Turtle – Magic Mountain is a striking art installation in Duisburg, Germany, designed by Heike Mutter and Ulrich Genth. Opened in 2011, the structure resembles a roller coaster but is actually a walkable sculpture made of zinc-coated steel with stairs and platforms. Visitors can climb the various loops and curves (except the upside-down loop) to experience different viewpoints over the Ruhr Valley and former industrial landscape. The sculpture is illuminated at night, creating a stunning visual landmark. Tiger and Turtle represents innovative thinking about public art and how staircases can be transformed into interactive sculptural experiences.
