About This Resource
The Tian Tan Buddha, also known as Big Buddha, is a large bronze statue on Lantau Island, Hong Kong. Visitors must climb 268 steps to reach the Buddha statue and its surrounding plaza. The steps represent the journey to enlightenment in Buddhist philosophy. The climb offers increasingly impressive views of the statue and surrounding mountains. At the top, visitors can walk around the base of the 34-meter tall Buddha and visit the adjacent Po Lin Monastery. The stairs have become part of the pilgrimage experience and tourist attraction, combining physical effort with spiritual symbolism.
