About This Resource
The Statue of Liberty features a narrow spiral staircase of 354 steps from the pedestal observation deck to the crown (377 steps total from ground level). The stairs climb through the interior structure designed by Gustave Eiffel, with the final section being a very tight double-helix spiral. Crown access is limited and requires advance reservation. The climb is strenuous and challenging in the confined space. However, reaching the crown provides views through the 25 windows and a unique perspective on this iconic monument. The stairs represent the physical effort required to reach America's symbolic beacon of freedom.
