About This Resource
The Spanish Steps (Scalinata di Trinità dei Monti) are one of Rome's most famous landmarks, consisting of 135 steps in a monumental Baroque staircase. Built between 1723 and 1725, the steps were designed by Francesco de Sanctis and link the Bourbon Spanish Embassy (hence the name) to the Trinità dei Monti church at the top. The elegant irregular design features terraces and has been featured in countless films including Roman Holiday. The steps remain one of the most visited sites in Rome and represent a masterpiece of Baroque urban design.
