About This Resource
Pittsburgh City Steps is a comprehensive project documenting and mapping all of the city's public staircases, which were built to help residents navigate the city's steep hillsides. The project includes historical information, current conditions, GPS coordinates, and photography of the steps. Pittsburgh has one of the most extensive urban staircase systems in the United States, with over 800 sets of public steps representing an important part of the city's history and urban fabric.
