The Mist Trail in Yosemite features over 600 steep granite steps carved and built alongside Vernal Fall. The stairs climb directly beside the 317-foot waterfall, with hikers often drenched in mist (especially spring/early summer). The stone steps are a marvel of trail engineering, carved into and built upon granite cliffs. The combination of physical challenge, waterfall power, and dramatic views makes this one of America's most famous trail segments. The stairs continue above Vernal Fall toward Nevada Fall.
