El Peñol de Guatapé is a massive granite rock (220 meters high) near Medellín, Colombia, featuring 659 steps built into a zigzag pattern up a crack in the rock face. The stairway was constructed to provide tourist access to the summit, which offers spectacular 360-degree views over the man-made Guatapé reservoir with its numerous green islands. The stairs are steep and can be challenging, but the dramatic setting and stunning views make it a popular tourist attraction.
