About This Resource
The Exorcist Steps are a steep 75-step stone staircase connecting M Street to Prospect Street in Georgetown, Washington DC. The stairs gained worldwide fame when featured in the climactic scene of the 1973 horror film The Exorcist. Built in 1895, the long, steep steps create a dramatic descent and have become a pilgrimage site for film fans. In 2015, the steps were officially recognized by DC's Office of Planning and designated as a historic landmark. The stairs remain a functioning part of Georgetown's pedestrian infrastructure while serving as a notable piece of film history.
