About This Resource

The Belfry of Bruges is a medieval bell tower standing 83 meters tall in the center of Bruges, Belgium. Built in the 13th century, visitors climb 366 narrow stone steps to reach the top, passing the treasury room and carillon. The climb is steep and the stairs narrow in places, but rewards with spectacular views over the medieval city. The belfry is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognizing the belfries of Belgium and France. It represents medieval civic architecture and the importance of bell towers in European cities. The belfry gained additional fame from the film 'In Bruges'.
