Arc de Triomphe Stairs - Paris

About This Resource

The Arc de Triomphe features 284 steps spiraling to the viewing platform at the top, 50 meters above the Place Charles de Gaulle. The monument, commissioned by Napoleon after the Battle of Austerlitz, was completed in 1836. Climbing the stairs provides views of the sculptural reliefs and inscribed names of battles and generals. At the top, visitors enjoy panoramic views of Paris including the Champs-Élysées, Eiffel Tower, and the twelve avenues radiating from the Arc. The climb represents the effort to reach a commanding view over one of the world's most beautiful cities and understand the monument's central position in Parisian urbanism.
