Angels Landing in Zion National Park features one of America's most dramatic hikes, including Walter's Wiggles - 21 steep, short switchbacks engineered in the 1920s. These tight zigzag stairs carved into the cliff face gain 250 feet rapidly. Beyond the Wiggles, a narrow ridge with chains requires scrambling with significant exposure on both sides. The full trail gains 1,500 feet in 2.5 miles. The combination of engineered stone steps, natural terrain, and thrilling exposure makes this one of the most famous hikes in the National Park system. A permit system now limits hikers due to popularity and safety concerns.
