About This Resource
Adam's Peak (Sri Pada) is a 2,243-meter mountain in Sri Lanka considered sacred by Buddhists, Hindus, Christians, and Muslims. The summit features a rock formation resembling a footprint, variously attributed to Buddha, Shiva, Adam, or St. Thomas. Pilgrims climb approximately 5,500 steps to reach the summit, typically timing their arrival for sunrise. The climb takes 3-7 hours depending on fitness and crowds. The stairs are lit during pilgrimage season (December-May) allowing night climbing. The combination of physical challenge, spiritual significance, and spectacular sunrise views makes this one of the world's most important pilgrimage climbs.
